Being hearing impaired hasn't stopped comedian Kathy Buckley from being successful as a stand-up comic.

When talking to her, a person can completely forget that she is deaf. To her, being deaf is just something that she's had to deal with, and she doesn't let it stop her from trying to make a difference in the world.

When asked what inspired her to become a comedian, she replied, "It just happened. Laughter was my best medicine in healing."

"People don't know how to act around someone who is deaf and they don't want to insult the person or look like a fool."

Buckley is working on a movie about her life.  She says that it is in the works but may not come out for at least a couple more years. 

"The only reason that I don't want to do it would be because the people in my family aren't going to see [my life] as I saw it."

Buckley travels all over the country doing comedy shows and working for the government on behalf of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Buckley encourages people to try not to judge others. 

"There is no better book in the world than the person sitting next to you with a story to tell about themselves."

Kathy Buckley has been nominated "Funniest Female Club Performer" by the American Comedy Awards, five times!
