Buckley's one-woman show "Don't Buck With Me!" at the Tamarind charts her progression from soundless isolation to a successful comedy career.  With the help of director Sue Wolf, Buckley offsets hints of sentimentality with polished acerbity.

Don't Buck With Me! - Original PlaybillYou will not believe just how wrong, and for how long, things went for Buckley.  That she is even here to tell her story is something for which we should all be grateful.

In Don't Buck With Me, Kathy Buckley's new one-woman show, Buckley exhibits not only the extraordinary comic talent that has guided her career but also an acting ability that the world has yet to see.

This one-woman journey through life deserves more that an hour of stage time - perhaps an entire sitcom developed around the triumphs and tragedies that have made Buckley the comedienne who can't hear but makes others sit up and listen.

Don't Buck - Mainstream Finding love of a more personal sort, though, has proved tougher.   "Men don't approach me," says Buckley, who lives alone in an antique-filled Burbank bungalow.  "There's something about a woman taking over a room of 2,000 people that scares them.  They know if they mess up, they're my next bit."

People   (April, 1997)

Let's face it, there are enough one person shows to keep us occupied until the year 2000, but, "Don't Buck With Me!" is the surprising exception and a blue print for creating the one person expression.  It's a glorious triumph of the human spirit.  Being hearing impaired is only one of many impediments that our central character must cope with.   She ushers us through a land of impossibilities - making the impossible possible and defying the odds.  She is able to laugh at her disability, despite the agonizing pain of her past,  Yes, this is one of the best of '97 and an open invitation to hear our hearts.  Run, don't walk to see this one!
